I like 'Poem' the best. It's because the content of the poem is so interesting. Talking about how a good man should be and how much he shows his love and care to his beloved family members. The setting of the poem is so interested, having a huge contrast between what he did towards his family members and what he didn't do. This allows me to have a second thought whether he is a good man or not. And I can realize that there might not be perfect man in the world as in those fairt tales.
I like the poem, "Mother, any distance", the most because it is meaningful to me. For example, the theme of this poem is talking about the relationship between mother and son. Armitage uses a measuring tape to symbolize relationship. When he moves further away from his mother for measurements, their relationship gets weaker. I think it is very special that a measuring tape can be symbolized as their relationship in which it contains a huge meaning behind.
I like the poem, "about his person" because the poem is talking about what is found about the person of a dead corpse, and it’s what the police use when they go through some dead body scene and the poem is actually following the scene of a detective scene, and the aim of this poem is to let the readers read and analyze the poem, as a result, i love this poem is because i love to guess different kind of things according to the "clues" from the poems.
The poem 'I am very bothered' captivated my thought and interest the most. Armitage's utilization of the sensual imagery, 'two burning rings', 'unrivaled stench of branded skin' clearly and vividly illustrate young Armitage's intentional act. The poem allows readers to contemplate on whether Armitage is regretting on the destructive act, or merely feeling 'bothered'. The poem relates to me well, I like to be mischievous too.
The poem 'Parable of the dead donkey' attracts me the most. 'Parable of the dad donkey' is a poem that centers on 'death'. The poem starts in an unusual and vivid way. Ameritage utilizes the visual imagery of a dead donkey as the man's death. Armitage's descriptive style of writing in this poem, 'facing north, he was dead at three o'clock'(line 25), leads the readers think as if he is a detective. Armitage also uses the visual image other animals such as pig, horse and eel to portray the man's death. I like this poem because it is a refreshing and creative piece of writing.
I like how Simon Armitage wrote in "About his person", his words are simple and he left us some many clues to think about; from one item to another, slowly generating our imaginations to picture the type of person the victim is, for example his personality, his motivations, whether as a murder or a suicide, encouraging us to analyze each little clue and state our own point of view toward it. This is a poem that I find most interesting as it does not involves much actions but can be linked to so much information.
My favorite poem written by Simon Armitage is To Poverty. In this poem Armitage personifies poverty as the narrator's friend, and the narrator is seen trying to communicate with his 'friend' poverty. While this poem is at times humorous, nonetheless Armitage successfully manages to depict the saddening lifestyles of people living in poverty. While Armitage might have been intending to bring new light onto the matter of poverty even within First World countries and the helplessness that comes with it, he manages to engage with the audience by the utilization of a wide array of literary devices such as the aforementioned personification and implies that everybody, as a member of the human race, should do his/her part to battle this pervasive problem.
My favorite poem written by Simon Armitage is "About his person". The language in this poem is cleverly avoids being pinned to one meaning and the details in the poem could be taken as metaphors for the man's life. The details are elusive, we have pieces of the picture, but the pieces can't complete the whole picture for us to clearly understand who the person is or what he has done. This poem remains something of a mystery to us, which makes me want to continue to discover this person.
I like the poem 'It ain't What You Do It's What It Does to You' written by Simon Armitage. Armitage uses different places to employ the human experiences of a character 'I'. Also, the poem appeals us to reflect everyday what we have done in the life. Also, Armitage create different kind of tone to represent each stanza in the poem. Moreover, I like how Armitage plays with language in the poem. For instance, Armitage uses enjambment in 'listen to the space between each football picking up and putting down' to create a space to let the audience listen and feel the atmosphere.
The poem "Extract from the blue" is the best in my opinion. This poem is about a victim of 911 attack, he get blown out of the window, falling down. Simon Armitage utilized first person to portray the scene. I liked this poem best because it described a man's feeling and his mindset before his death, I can literally feel how desperate is the man when he know he is going to die.
In my opinion, I think that "I am very bothered" is my favorite poem written by Simon Armitage. The poem was written in a sonnet, which is a classic structure for a love poem, however, the poem recored a prank that gave a girl a mark eternally. The main theme of the poem contradicted with a sonnet, which to me, is very fun to read. Also, the sensual imagery that Armitage had illustrated had brought the poem to life, allowing myself to feel the atmosphere where the poem took place at.
I am very bothered is one of my favorite poem from Simon armitage This is a love poem refering to his wife but also a confession piece, in this poem armitage is trying to show the unsympathetic side of himself, I think this poem is very touching because Simon armitage is showing his true love to the girl.
Simon Armitage presents a lot of magnificent poems but my personal favorite is "About His Person". Armitage is able to use different diction to discretely describe the corpse and imply his characteristics and background with the insightful literary features. Symbolism, metaphor and personification are employed in a very smart manner, the readers are able to use these features to have a person judge on the person.
My favorite poem by Simon Armitage is About His Person. Armitage uses a poem to describe the scene of a death as the police will do. Bit by bit the poem reveals the scene and the clues left behind for us to interpretate, and never tells the truth. Throughout the list of clues, Armitage uses diction, literary features and structure to bring the boring context to life.
